Religious 24: The Prophetic Timeline — Where We Are and What’s Ahead
Eph 5:11:“…have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”
Amos 3:7 “…God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.”
Why this post?
To put the entire prophetic timeline in one place — what’s been fulfilled, where we are right now, and what’s still coming before Jesus returns.
Introduction
Over the last 23 posts I’ve walked through the evidence. Piece by piece. From whether God exists, to how we got the Bible, to identifying the beasts of Daniel and Revelation, to the mark, the judgment, the seven churches, the end of days. It’s been a long road.
But here’s the thing — I’ve never put it all in one view. One timeline. A single picture that shows where every major prophecy sits on the map, which ones have already come true, and which ones are still ahead of us.
That’s what this post is.
Think of it as the summary. The bird’s-eye view. If you’ve read the whole series you’ll recognize everything here. If you’re new, this will give you the skeleton — and I’ll link back to the detailed posts where I laid out the evidence.
I’m not going to re-argue every point. I’ve done that already. This is the checklist.
What’s been fulfilled
I’ll keep this tight. These are the major prophetic milestones that history has already confirmed. There are more than what I list here — but these are the pillars.
Daniel’s empires (Daniel 2, 7, 8) — Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome. Four kingdoms predicted centuries in advance, fulfilled exactly. The statue. The four beasts. The ram and the goat. All confirmed by history. I covered this in my Nebuchadnezzar’s dream post.
The 70 weeks / 490 years (Daniel 9:24–27) — From the decree to rebuild Jerusalem (457 BC) to the Messiah’s appearance (AD 27), His crucifixion in the middle of the last week (AD 31), and the gospel going to the Gentiles (AD 34). This prophecy pinpoints Jesus with mathematical precision. Covered in prophetic timelines.
The little horn / papal power (Daniel 7, 8) — Rises from the fourth beast (Rome), persecutes the saints, changes times and laws. Fulfilled from 538 AD onward. Covered in the first beast.
The 1260 years of persecution (Daniel 7:25; Rev 12:6, 14; Rev 13:5) — 538 AD to 1798 AD. Papal supremacy over the church and the saints. The woman flees into the wilderness. The true believers — Waldenses, Albigenses, Huguenots — endured this entire period. Ended when Napoleon’s general Berthier took the Pope captive.
The deadly wound (Rev 13:3) — 1798. The papacy lost its political power. But the prophecy says the wound would heal — and it has been healing since the Lateran Treaty of 1929. Ongoing.
The 2300 days / years (Daniel 8:14) — 457 BC to 1844 AD. The cleansing of the sanctuary — the investigative judgment — began in the heavenly sanctuary. This is the antitypical Day of Atonement. Covered in the judgment.
The 1290 and 1335 days/years (Daniel 12:11–12) — 508 AD to 1798 AD (1290) and 508 AD to 1843/1844 (1335). Both pointing to the end of papal supremacy and the beginning of the judgment-hour message. Covered in prophetic timelines.
Signs in sun, moon, stars (Matt 24:29; Rev 6:12–13) — Lisbon earthquake 1755. The dark day of 1780. The falling of the stars 1833. All after the 1260 years, all before 1844. Exactly where Jesus said they’d be.
The seven churches as seven periods (Rev 2–3) — Ephesus (apostolic), Smyrna (persecution), Pergamos (compromise), Thyatira (Dark Ages), Sardis (Reformation), Philadelphia (advent revival), Laodicea (1844 to now). Covered in 7 churches.
The two witnesses (Rev 11) — The Old and New Testaments, suppressed for 1260 years, revived in the Reformation and the Bible societies of the late 1700s.
The second beast / false prophet (Rev 13:11–18) — The United States. Rises from the earth (sparsely populated land). Two lamb-like horns (civil and religious liberty). Speaks like a dragon. Covered in the second beast.
The three angels’ messages begin (Rev 14:6–12) — Proclaimed since the 1840s. The everlasting gospel, Babylon is fallen, warning against the mark. This is the message for our time.
This is not the full list. There are more — the man of sin (2 Thess 2), the apostasy, the scoffers, the wars and famines as birth pains, the gospel reaching all nations. But the ones above are the structural pillars. And every single one has been confirmed by history.
If you’re keeping score — that’s a lot of prophecies that came true. Exactly as written. Centuries in advance.
Where we are now
So where does that put us?
We’re in the Laodicean period — the seventh and final church. The lukewarm church that thinks it’s rich and needs nothing but is actually wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked (Rev 3:17). If that doesn’t describe modern Christianity, I don’t know what does.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
The investigative judgment has been underway since 1844 in the heavenly sanctuary. The books are being opened. Names are being examined. This isn’t future — it’s happening right now.
The deadly wound is healing. The papacy has regained enormous political and moral influence globally. Popes address the United Nations, broker peace deals, and issue encyclicals on climate that call for — you guessed it — a common day of rest. The wound is nearly healed.
And in the United States, Christian nationalism is rising. Project 2025 explicitly discusses reinstating blue laws. The infrastructure for “no one can buy or sell” — digital ID, central bank digital currencies, social credit systems — is being built right now.
In January 2026, the Heritage Foundation released a report calling for the revival of Sunday rest laws—restricting commercial activity on Sundays to promote family time and community cohesion. Read page 38. Framed around America's 250th anniversary, it builds on Project 2025's proposal to mandate Sabbath-day pay premiums, defaulting to Sunday. They call it secular. Community rhythm. Saving the family. But the Seventh-day Adventist Church wasn't buying it—issuing a formal warning about religious freedom violations within weeks of release. And honestly, neither should you. I've written about why Sunday law enforcement matters prophetically here. This is that. Playing out. Right now.
The pieces are on the board. The next moves are prophesied.
What’s still ahead
Here’s what the Bible and the Spirit of Prophecy tell us is still coming — in approximate prophetic sequence — before Jesus returns. Nothing from the millennium or after. Just the events between now and His visible return in the clouds.
Note: Some of these events overlap or happen in rapid succession. Ellen White wrote that “the final movements will be rapid ones” (Testimonies Vol. 9, p. 11). Once the Sunday law passes, the dominoes fall fast.
A word about sequence
I’ve numbered these in approximate prophetic order, but be careful about being too rigid. Some events overlap. The shaking, latter rain, and loud cry, for instance — they’re happening somewhat simultaneously, not in neat little boxes. The sealing is happening during the loud cry period. Satan’s impersonation could come before or during the death decree.
What IS clear is the general flow: testing and purification → empowerment and proclamation → legislation and persecution → probation closes → plagues fall → Jesus returns.
That’s the arc. And we’re somewhere in the opening stages of it right now.
The phases
Phase 1 — Testing and purification (event #1)
First the shaking. Tests come — not the abstract trials of life, but ones that pull at people’s grip on the truth itself. The lukewarm leave. The compromised leave. Those who liked the social half of Christianity but not the costly half — they leave. The church is purified. Revelation 3:16 to the lukewarm Laodicean, and Hebrews 12:26-27 on what cannot be shaken remaining. Ellen White wrote about this specifically in Early Writings 270 and Testimonies Vol. 4, p. 89. The shaking is not a future event we are waiting for — it has been underway for some time. Look around. Notice who has quietly left.
Phase 2 — Empowerment and proclamation (events #2-3)
Then the empowerment. The Latter Rain (Joel 2:23, 28-29; Acts 2:17). The same Spirit that gave the early church Pentecost gives the end-time church the latter rain — the harvest-ripening outpouring. And what does the church do with it? It proclaims. The three angels’ messages of Revelation 14:6-12 — the everlasting gospel, Babylon is fallen, warning against the mark — go global with power. Revelation 18:1-4 calls it the Loud Cry: “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen… Come out of her, my people.” The proclamation is not subtle. It is not academic. It is the final pre-judgment warning, delivered worldwide, with Spirit-empowered clarity that the world has not heard since Pentecost.
National Sunday law (USA) — event #4, the cascade trigger
Pivot point. Everything from event #4 forward cascades from this single legislative move.
Revelation 13:11-15 — the second beast (the United States — see the post on the second beast) passes legislation enforcing Sunday observance and forms an image to the beast: a church-state union that compels false worship under penalty. Once the USA does it, the law spreads globally (event #6). Once it spreads globally, the seal of God is finalised on the remnant (#7). Once the remnant is sealed, Satan personally arrives impersonating Christ (#8) (detail sequence might be different). Then national ruin in the USA (#9), the universal death decree (#10), and the close of probation (#11) — at which point no further conversion is possible.
Six events. One trigger. Once the Sunday law passes, the dominoes fall fast — and Ellen White already wrote in 1909 that “the final movements will be rapid ones” (Testimonies Vol. 9, p. 11). The phase to be most awake to is not the plagues, not even the death decree. It is this one — because before this one you can still choose. After this one, you are no longer choosing; you are simply living out choices already made.
The Heritage Foundation report linked in “Where we are now” above (page 38, January 2026) is the freshest receipt for this pivot being currently in motion. Project 2025’s Sabbath-pay-premium proposal — defaulting to Sunday — is the same move under a secular cover. Saving the family. Community rhythm. Read the names off and remember Daniel 7:25: “and shall think to change times and laws.”
Phase 3 — Legislation and persecution (events #5-10)
Then the legislation cascades. Once the USA passes the National Sunday law (the pivot above), the image to the beast fully forms (#5) — apostate Protestantism in church-state union with the secular state, mirroring the papal system structurally. The Sunday law goes global (#6) — that is the mark of the beast, forced false worship under civil penalty. The faithful remnant — those keeping the Sabbath — are sealed before the plagues fall (#7, Revelation 7:1-8). Satan personally arrives impersonating Christ (#8) — visible, miracle-working, declaring Sunday holy, the ultimate deception. The USA, having abandoned its constitutional principles, falls to ruin (#9). And a worldwide death decree is published (#10) — like Esther’s day, a date is set for the destruction of God’s people. He that is unjust, let him be unjust still. That is where this phase ends.
Close of probation — event #11, the irrevocable transition
Revelation 22:11. Possibly the most final-sounding sentence in the Bible: “He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.”
Probation closes. Christ leaves the heavenly sanctuary (Revelation 15:8 — no man able to enter while the plagues are poured out). Daniel 12:1 — “Michael shall stand up… and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation.” No more intercession. No more forgiveness. No more side-changing. Every conscious being’s destiny is permanently sealed on the side they were on at the moment probation closed.
This is the irrevocable transition. Every event before this one was reversible — even the Sunday law was reversible by repentance, even the death decree was reversible by repentance. After this, nothing is. It is done. And no one alive on earth at that moment will know it has happened. They will only realise it in retrospect — by the absence of the conviction that used to come.
Phase 4 — Probation closed (event #12)
Then the saints — sealed, but unprotected by intercession because intercession has ended — pass through the Time of Jacob’s Trouble (Jeremiah 30:7; Daniel 12:1; the Genesis 32 type of Jacob wrestling with the angel). Not doubt about salvation — they have the seal. But intense soul-searching about whether any unconfessed sin, any forgotten failure, any compromise might still cling to them. The agony is real. They endure it without a mediator. They emerge as Jacob did — limping, but with the new name and the blessing. Israel. The one who prevails.
Phase 5 — Plagues fall (events #13-20)
Then the seven last plagues (Revelation 16). God’s unmixed wrath — no mercy held back, no intercession buffering it, because the time of intercession has ended. The sealed are protected through them; the rest are not. The angels do not hold the four winds back any longer. Grievous sores on those bearing the mark (#14). The sea turns to blood (#15). The rivers turn to blood — the punishment fits the crime, because they shed the blood of saints (#16). Scorching sun (#17). Total darkness on the seat of the beast (#18). The Euphrates dries up (probably refers to the Word) — Babylon’s support collapses — and the kings of the earth are gathered to Armageddon by demonic spirits (#19, Revelation 16:12-16). And then Babylon falls (#20, Revelation 18) — the papal system and her apostate daughters (protestant churches), fallen, fallen. God remembers her sins. The plagues take a year give or take on most timeline reckonings; the fall of the institutional whole is the climax of that year.
Phase 6 — Jesus returns (events #21-24)
Then the deliverance. God’s voice shakes heaven and earth (#21, Joel 3:16; Hebrews 12:26) and announces the day and hour of Jesus’s coming. The death decree against the saints is overturned in the same instant; the world that just hours ago intended to kill them now flees from them. A special resurrection (#22, Daniel 12:2) raises a small group: those who died believing the third angel’s message, and those who literally pierced Him at the crucifixion — both groups present to witness His return, the one in joy, the other in terror. Then the seventh and final plague (#23, Revelation 16:17-21) — the greatest earthquake in human history, every island flees, mountains disappear, hailstones the weight of a talent (~30 kg). The sky itself splits — the heavens depart as a scroll (#24, Revelation 6:14; Isaiah 34:4) — and the wicked, finally seeing what is happening, call for the rocks to fall on them and hide them from the face of Him that sits on the throne.
Visible second coming of Jesus Christ — event #25, the destination
Revelation 1:7. “Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him.”
Every eye. Not a secret rapture (see the post on prophetic timelines for why that idea is a Jesuit invention). Not a private return for one denomination. Every eye sees Him. Matthew 24:30-31. He comes in the clouds with power and great glory, with all His angels.
Then the resurrection of the righteous dead — the dead in Christ shall rise first (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17). Then the transformation of the living saints — we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye (1 Corinthians 15:51-52). And then the meeting in the air. The 6,000-year arc that began in Eden closes here. The plan promised in Genesis 3:15, advanced through the patriarchs, prophesied in detail through Daniel, fulfilled in part at the cross, and held suspended through the church age — the plan finally completes. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
whydoneit?
Look — I know a post like this can feel heavy. A wall of events and plagues and decrees. But here’s what I keep coming back to.
God didn’t give us prophecy to scare us. He gave it so we’d recognize it when it happens. So we’d know it’s Him. So we wouldn’t be caught off guard.
Isaiah 46:10 – “Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done…”
Every fulfilled prophecy on that list above is evidence that the unfulfilled ones will happen too. The same God who called Babylon, Persia, Greece, and Rome by name centuries before they rose — that same God told us what’s coming next.
The question isn’t whether these things will happen. The question is whether we’ll be ready when they do.
Amos 3:7 – “Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.”
He told us. He always tells us. The only question left is — are we listening?
